My daughter came home from school today and told me they were celebrating the death of Steve Jobs. She is in first grade and I think she may be misusing the word ‘celebration’. I asked if she knew who he was and she said he was the creator of Apple. She also said her computers at school are Apple and her teacher’s own computer that she takes home with her is an Apple. I reminded her that all our computers were also Apples. And this wireless keyboard I love so much. And my sleek little wireless mouse. I can do what I do today with as much joy because of the genius of Jobs. I am in deep appreciation of his drive and creativity. And while I wont celebrate his death, I do celebrate his life – every time I sit down at this desk and turn my computer on. Thank you Mr Jobs.
My Desk
Thanks to Joel Pirela at Blue Ant Studios I actually tidied up my desk…I think a lot of my fellow bloggers followed suit. Check out Joel’s new “Creative Desks” series.
Lunch
This week I actually got out. This is a shot of the lunch they served at the press preview for LACMA’s California Design exhibition which is part of Pacific Standard Time. So much good stuff happening in LA right now.
So the lunch – chicken, bacon and guacamole – but hey, it was in a wrap. And it was also kind of small. Very French really.
Eames and JF Chen
I had such a great day earlier this week touring JF Chen‘s showroom as they were setting up for the “Collecting Eames” exhibition with Daniel Ostroff (his collection of over 150 pieces was bought by Chen who then added to it – substantially). I met Joel Chen and his daughter Bianca and also the designer of the exhibition, artist Clare Graham. Moments like these I do truly love living in Los Angeles. The show is a must-see. There’s over 450 pieces of Eames design. It reminded me just how extraordinary Ray and Charles were. And all those pieces? Every single one if for sale.
Here are just a few pics from my morning. Make sure you get there yourself if you’re in LA.

LACMA’s California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way
Went to the press preview today for this great exhibition at LACMA. Amazing show. Another must-see (JF Chen, now this). There’s so much to say about this show – so many gems, but I don’t have the time or energy to devote to it tonight. I’ll follow up next week but just wanted to get these shots up. What do you think?
Color
I’m still loving the Farrow and Ball ‘Downpipe’ we chose for the bedroom…now wondering where else in the house to add dark/er colors. Above the bed is the Bouroullec brother’s Algue.

Lunch
Clearly a theme with these lunches. This was tomato, basil from the garden and olive oil on multi-grain bread. I need to branch out…had delicious roasted carrot soup at book group last night (thank you Rachael – waiting on that recipe). It’s the first day of Autumn so soup is starting to feel like a good idea.
