art: work progress administration
by cerentha39
My great grandfather, Harry Hopkins, was part of the Roosevelt administration and headed the WPA. I can’t help but think now, as California seems to fall apart in front of our eyes with rising unemployment and a broken infrastructure that a WPA-type program is what we need…and not just California, the whole country. Above is a poster designed as part of a WPA program – for sale through Hickoree’s online store. The artist is unknown – but he or she was one of 8 million who found jobs during the Depression through the WPA. Check out more posters at Hickoree’s.
