Rilakkuma Event in Culver City

A few years ago Brian bought back one of these bears from Tokyo for our daughter. It’s been a prized possession ever since. This weekend teaforest cafe (8686 Washington Blvd in Culver City) is holding a Rilakkuma event complete with a life-sized bear, gift bags for the first 50 guests and lots of merchandise for sale. Plus a photo booth (I do love a photo booth!)

It runs from 2 – 5.30 pm.

We’ll see you there!

Alain de Botton

I’m a big fan of Alain de Botton‘s work and was thrilled when the women from Broodwork told me that he had agreed to be part of their Ideal Live/Work Space series over on Lifework. You can check out Alain’s words here. I love what he says about creativity and the writing process. Makes me want to go work at LAX although Santa Monica Library will probably suffice.

interior designer: laura baker

I also interviewed Laura Baker last week for Lifework – great work space.

object: paper art

I love these paper cut outs. From Cut Out Paper. I wrote about them over at Lifework.

object: linen

Gorgeous new linen for the tabletop from Commune via Heath Ceramics.

Design*Sponge’s Grace Bonney

Amy Feezor has interviewed the lovely Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge about her favorite music over on Lifework. Check it out. I’m glad someone else works propped up in their bed! Pic by Patrick Cline for Lonny Magazine.

architecture: for everyone

I love this site – Architizer is a way for clients to find architect and architects to show their work. Cool interactive map. The house above is in the work of architect Joel Sanders.

a ridiculously cute blog

What can I say – this is a really cute dog. Check out A Day in the Life of Turbo.

Eat for The Planet

I subscribe to a great foodie newsletter called Tasting Table (lots and lots of good tips here) and they just published an excellent Green Guide for Earth Day. You can download the PDF here. I love this dine off the grid idea…

DINE OFF THE GRID Mexico Restaurante y Barra will power down for one day, and serve a special menu ($20 per person) with family-style dishes prepared on an open grill. Juice for the margaritas will be hand-squeezed, and bring cash (no power = no computers). All are encouraged to take public transportation, walk or bike in (there’s even a bike valet). Sunday, 4/25 (3 to 9 p.m).; 8512 Santa Monica Blvd., West Holly-wood; 310-289-0088 or gogomexico.com

art: julie harris in the kitchen

And while we’re on the topic of amazing artists, there’s also my aunt Julie. Her work has been collected by Australian chef Tetsuya for years and in a recent campaign for Electrolux he was shot in his kitchen with one of her paintings prominently displayed. I’ve got a few of her pieces – much smaller and not from this series, sadly. You can see her work here.
