In February I moved to LA from Sydney with my family. We had actually lived in Los Angeles a few years ago for 18 months. Work, it seems, bounces us around a bit. But I feel we are here to stay…at least for a while! Being new-ish I am always looking for guides to the city, especially ones with a design bent. So I was thrilled to come across Alissa Walker’s Grand Tour of Los Angeles (it includes the wonderful Gamble House – above and the Kappe house – pictured below). Walker was lucky enough to take Horace and Eugenie Havemeyer, the publishers of Metropolis, on this design-driven tour of LA. I’m going to retrace it…at least as much of it as is public.

Walker is a walker – yes, she is one of the few people I know in LA without a car. She also has a passion for design that seeps into everything she does and I like that. Plus she’s a big fan of Los Angeles. I love this city and I think it gets a bad wrap so it’s always good to find someone who likes it as much as I do.
